Local nurse supervisor wins national honor

Forsyth County Nurse-Family Partnership Supervisor Christine Wanous received the National Tenacious Caregiver Award for?Nurse Supervisor from the National Service Office for Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) during its annual education summit last month.

NFP is an evidence-based program where nurses regularly visit low-income first-time moms and their families at home starting early in pregnancy until the baby's second birthday with the goal of improving pregnancy outcomes, child health and development, and economic self-sufficiency for the family.

The Tenacious Caregiver Award for?Nurse Supervisor?recognizes an outstanding team leader who goes above and beyond to support their team’s wellbeing, professional development and impact.

Wanous has been supervisor of Forsyth County Department of Public Health’s NFP program in since it began more than 10 years ago. She has a bachelor’s degree in nursing, a master’s degree in public health and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in public health.

Wanous received eight nominations from her team. Wanous says providing reflective supervision and leadership to such a caring and committed team is a highlight of her career.

"Christine is dedicated to leading her team and improving the lives of the mothers, children and families the Nurse-Family Partnership serves," said Forsyth Public Health Director Joshua Swift. "She is a champion of public health and definitely a Tenacious Caregiver!"
