The spotted lanternfly (SLF), Lycorma delicatula, an invasive insect, was recently detected in North Carolina for the first time in Forsyth County. It has the potential to negatively affect grapes, fruit trees, native trees, and ornamentals by feeding on sap. Early detection of newly established populations is crucial in order to limit the spread and abundance of this pest. Homeowners and gardeners can develop skills to recognize and distinguish between each stage in the SLF lifecycle and use management strategies that are appropriate for the time of year and stage of development while understanding the role that humans play in the spread of SLF. Learn all this and more by attending a 1-hour online Zoom led by N.C. Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center.

This program is geared towards homeowners, gardeners, and HOAs. A separate in-person professional development program for NC Certified Landscapers, farmers, arborists, pesticide operators, and state and municipal park staff is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2023.
