Meet Author John Batchelor in Walkertown

John Batchelor, restaurant reviewer for the Greensboro News and Record will describe how he came up with the idea for his book, Chefs of the Mountains: Restaurants and Recipes from Western North Carolina, and share some recipes interesting back stories. John Batchelor has been writing the restaurant review column for The Greensboro News and Record for over 30 years. He also reviewed restaurants for The Winston-Salem Journal for three years. He writes occasional dining and travel articles for Focus on the Coast and Blue Ridge Country as well as other magazines. His newest book, Chefs of the Mountains: Restaurants and Recipes from Western North Carolina, was published in October 2012 by John F. Blair, Publishers, in Winston-Salem. He has started another book, Chefs of the Coast.

In his “real job,” he was an educator in North Carolina for over 30 years, a former Guilford County teacher and a retired school system superintendent. He worked with a research center at Johns Hopkins University for ten years after retiring from the State, re-retiring in 2009. He was awarded a doctorate from N.C. State, where he held the Hodnett doctoral fellowship. He has written several other books, all in the field of history, as well as articles addressing personnel management and school system governance.
