Annual Listing Period for 2013 Begins

In North Carolina real property is automatically listed. Our office has mailed an abstract to the owners of all improved residential properties, properties with new owners or properties with building permits. The message “Value Pending Reappraisal” appears on the tax listing form where the real estate value is normally printed. We are delaying the publication of the 2013 assessed value for real estate as we continue our analysis of all sales through December 31, 2012. The absence of a real estate value on your 2013 listing form does not in any way affect your right to appeal your real estate value after notification in mid-February.

All property owners are required by N.C.G.S. 105-285 to list any personal property owned as of January 1st and/or any changes that have been made to real estate during the prior year. Listings are not mailed on vacant land. The listing is also an opportunity to correct any errors on personal information, names, mailing addresses, or request an application for Tax Relief.

N.C.G.S. 105-307(a) states that the listing period runs through January 31. Personal property that is listed after January 31st will be considered late and will be subject to a 10% penalty.

The signed and completed forms may be mailed to: Forsyth County Tax Administration, P. O. Box 757, Winston-Salem, NC 27102 or delivered to the Forsyth County Tax Administration Office located on the 1st floor of the Forsyth County Government Center at 201 North Chestnut Street.

We encourage every property owner who receives this listing to review it carefully and return the signed form to our office, even if there are no changes to be made. A current and accurate tax listing helps to ensure that the tax office is treating all taxpayers equitably and fairly. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

If you own personal, business, or real property in Forsyth County as of January 1 and did not receive a listing form please contact the Forsyth County Tax Office at 336-703-2300 option 2. More information regarding what needs to be listed can be found under the FAQ section of this website.
