Get Ready for Summer Reading 2010

The countdown has officially started for the start of summer reading at Forsyth County Public Library. Our annual kick-off is scheduled for Saturday, June 5th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the corner of Spring and 4 ½ streets behind Central Library. These streets will be blocked off so that we can set up our games sites, arts and crafts table, refreshments and our entertainment stage. This year’s kick-off has something for everyone so make plans to bring the whole family out.

This year’s featured entertainer is the group “Patty Cake,” providing songs and stories for children as well as our own youth services staff who will again give a memorable performance of songs, stories and activities for kids of all ages.

ARRRRRRRRRGH! Back by popular demand again this year is Pirate Jim who will be appearing throughout the Library system during summer reading bringing his one-of-a-kind brand of magical illusions, music and interactive games to the stage.

We’ll wrap Summer Reading up on August 6th at Central Library from 2:00 - 5:00 pm with a huge Beach party featuring one of the all-time favorite Summer Reading entertainers, Big, Bang, Boom, a pop trio that writes and performs parent friendly children’s music in a high energy style that both dazzles and delights. From their SpongeBob chorus made up of kids from the audience to the parents vs. children Hokey-Pokey challenge you’ll be laughing and singing throughout the entire show.

Make summer reading a family must-do event this year. In addition to activities and programs and suggested reading lists for children, there is also a suggested reading list for teens including many of today’s hot titles as well as classics from throughout the ages. Adults we haven’t forgotten about you either as you are encouraged to gorge yourself on a steady diet of books throughout the summer months.

So, how do you sign up? It’s easy. You can either attend the summer reading kick-off on June 5th, where you can quickly sign up for Summer Reading and receive a reading log, or you can stop by any location of the Forsyth County Public Library to do so at any time.
