Lewisville Senior Program Opens
Lewisville Mayor Dan Pugh, FC Aging Services Planning Committee Volunteers, the Director of the Shepherd’s Center of Winston–Salem, and local residents cut the ribbon to officially open the doors of the new Lewisville Senior Program. “This is one of the best examples of what can happen when citizens partner with government and agencies” remarked Pete Sturdy as he spoke to the crowd gathered for the opening. Mr. Sturdy, a Lewisville resident, organized seniors after interest in starting a senior center gained momentum.
A walking program, exercise classes, Tai Chi, Wii Games and Bridge are examples of the wide range of activities that are held at locations including the Lewisville Community Center, the Lewisville Branch Library and local churches. Partnerships with community organizations are being developed to expand the activities available for older adults living in Western Forsyth County.
“We are excited about the opportunity to serve the Lewisville community” stated Sam Matthews, Executive Director of the Shepherd’s Center. “By opening a satellite program of the Shepherd’s Center we can bring new services and assist with coordinating and publicizing existing programs."
