Forsyth County Pawpaw Field Day

Did you know that pawpaw (Asimina triloba) produces the largest fruit native to the Eastern US? The pawpaw tree’s fruit has a thin green skin, large black seeds, and creamy, yellow-orange flesh. Its flavor is unique, frequently compared to banana, mango, vanilla, pineapple, and even butterscotch! Pawpaw is a native, understory tree that grows in both deep shade and full sunlight in moist, nutrient-rich forests. Keep your eyes peeled, these trees grow alongside many of the greenways and parks in Forsyth County!

Come join NC Cooperative Extension this year to learn about this tree and taste its unique fruit at the 2025 Pawpaw Field Day on Sept. 6, 2025, between 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at the Forsyth County office demonstration orchard in Winston-Salem. This is an open house event so drop-in any time throughout the day. This year’s fun-filled field day will feature tours of our small orchard, pawpaw tastings, hourly educational talks, recipes, trees for sale (while supplies last), and activities for the little ones!
