Synopsis and Discussion

The continual weather pattern of hot and humid conditions remains over the Triad today, with afternoon showers and storms helping to keep ozone and particle pollution levels within the upper Code GREEN range. An upper level ridge remains to the south of the state, keeping the Triad along the northern periphery and thus in the striking distance of upper level disturbances that are expected to periodically move in from the west through the weekend. Conditions are expected to remain hot and humid, providing the fuel for these disturbances to trigger scattered showers and storms each afternoon. With that said, air quality levels should easily remain in the middle to upper Code GREEN range through Sunday. The upper ridge retrogrades west and upper level winds become mort northwesterly later Sunday and through Monday. This will lead to a backdoor front (and associated scattered showers) attempting to push south into the state during the day on Monday. Drier and cooler conditions may filter into the northern portions of the Triad if the front is more aggressive on its southward advancement, but that is atypical this time of year. With that said, air quality levels will continue to remain Code GREEN into early next week. (Payne)
