Ozone readings are expected to peak late this afternoon and into the early evening hours with pockets of Code ORANGE hourly values and eight-hour averages netting out near the Code Yellow/ORANGE threshold. Code ORANGE is Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Children, elderly, and people with any heart or lung disease (like asthma) should limit outdoor exertion. The Air Quality Alert expires at 12:00 AM on May 21st. Greatly improved air quality will be on tap for the next few days as unsettled weather arrives and provides some much-needed rainfall to the area. The clouds, showers, and storms will hold ozone readings in the Code Green range for the balance of the forecast period. Particle pollution concentrations are expected to hover right around the Code Green/Yellow threshold through Saturday. (Greg Perrotte / perrotgt@forsyth.cc)
