County Commissioner Update
Forsyth County Commissioners ended February by approving their priority goals and they have a busy month planned for March, including an evening meeting on March 13.
They will be attending the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference in Washington, DC from March 1-4. The conference brings together nearly 2,000 elected and appointed county officials from across the country to focus on federal policy issues that impact counties and their residents.
A Commissioners Budget Workshop will begin at 9 a.m. on March 10. This is the first in a series of workshops that will lead up to the presentation of the Manager’s proposed budget in May and the Commissioners adopting the budget in June. The budget sets the County’s spending and tax rate for the next fiscal year, which will begin July 1.
Also on March 10, the Commissioners will hold a 2 p.m. Briefing.
On March 13, Commissioners will hold a Meeting at 6 p.m. where they’ll vote on various items and hear comments from residents during their regular Public Session. Commissioners are expected to make decisions about their meeting schedule during this evening meeting.
Meetings are held at the Forsyth County Government Center, 201 N. Chestnut St. Meetings are streamed live in their entirety on the Forsyth County YouTube, Facebook and Vimeo accounts as well as the Forsyth County website. Meetings are also broadcasted live on WSTV13 on Spectrum cable.
Commissioners Meet With State Lawmakers
Forsyth County Commissioners met with members of our State Legislative Delegation on Feb. 24 to give them an update on County projects and priorities. These included requests for state funding to help with the following projects:
- Forsyth WINS, the local Cure Violence program that reduces violence though detecting and interrupting conflict, promoting safer and healthier behaviors among high-risk individuals and building healthy social norms.
- Phase 2 for the new Belews Lake Park, which will include more trails and a playground.
- Renovations to the Maintenance Overhaul and Renovation (MRO) Hangar at the airport, which is used by over 350 employees to provide maintenance services to airlines like American and United.
There were also requests for updates to state laws:
- Changing billable codes for paramedicine and peer support specialists, to support alternative treatments to address mental health and substance use challenges in the community.
- Reducing risk to residential providers serving youth with high complexity needs so that Social Services can place these youth in licensed Behavioral Health facilities faster instead of housing them temporarily in emergency rooms and Social Services offices.
- Repealing a part of a law that says changes to use or density in a zoning district requires written approval of all landowners in such districts, which greatly limits the ability of local governments to respond to evolving development needs.

Surplus County items up for auction on GovDeals

It's time for another auction of surplus property on GovDeals! Need chairs? Printers? A Kubota tractor? Automobiles? And, of course, there will be many, many other surplus items on www.govdeals.com from March 10-24. Items can be found after the auction starts by searching “Forsyth County, NC” on the site.
The items that will go up for auction are listed at the bottom of the resolution approving the auction. Interested parties may schedule an appointment to view the items March 3-14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. by contacting Marc Campbell at 336-703-2232.
The Commissioners regularly approve the sale of surplus items. County staff tries to reuse items as much as possible before disposing of them through an auction. The last auction in September brought in $9,924.44.
Automobiles will be new to our GovDeals listings since we previously sold those through in-person public auction. The condition of the automobiles varies, but most are salvage-titled cars.
