On March 2nd Corporal Curry received a lookout from Communications for a driver that was believed to be impaired driving on Reidsville Road. Corporal Curry immediately responded to the area and stopped the vehicle. Corporal Curry observed clues that would lead most officers to believe the subject was impaired, including slow slurred speech. However, Corporal Curry’s attention to detail allowed him to notice a medical bracelet on the driver’s wrist. Corporal Curry immediately called for EMS to respond to his location for medical treatment. EMS arrived promptly and began treating the driver, Mr. Brian Gwartz. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital for further medical care. Mr. Gwartz is a competitive shooter, and inside the vehicle were some of his most valued pistols. Corporal Curry took possession of the firearms and they were subsequently stored for safekeeping at Beaty Center. On March 24th, the driver took the time to send in a “thank you” to one of our social media pages. He credits Corporal Curry for saving his life. He was also profoundly grateful that Corporal Curry kept his firearms safe until he was able to retrieve them. Corporal Curry is a shining example of what every law enforcement officer should strive to become. He began the incident by protecting the citizens of Forsyth County from a suspected impaired driver. After utilizing his keen observation skills Corporal Curry shifted to life-saving measures. Finally, he showed great care for the valued possessions of the man who he just saved from a medical emergency. I am proud to work alongside Corporal Curry. He has proven himself a true asset to this agency and the community he chooses to serve. In light of his service, he deserves to be recognized as Enforcement Staff Member of the Month.
