The Environmental Assistance and Protection Board (formerly Environmental Affairs Board) was established in 1976 for the purpose of advising the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners and assisting the Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection with topics related to environmental management.
The goals of the Board are to encourage the wise and beneficial use of the natural environment of Forsyth County, minimize the adverse impact of environmental contaminants on human health and welfare, and foster public awareness of environmental considerations.
Any person taking exception to any decision, ruling, violation notice, or order issued by the Director of the Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection may appeal to the Board. The findings and recommendations of the Board are transmitted to the Director or to the Forsyth County Manager for presentation to the Board of Commissioners, whichever is appropriate.
The Board also issues Annual Special Air Quality and Special Environmental Awards to recognize deserving industrial and institutional sources, as well as the public sector.
The Environmental Assistance and Protection Board consists of seven members who are appointed for three year terms by the Board of Commissioners. The composition of the Board should include individuals from a spectrum of vocations and professions including, but not limited to, business, engineering, economics, law, medicine, biology and life sciences, resource management, education or other specialties related to environmental management.
